3 words….

Well, 3 phases really.

1st major boo boo
Outside Adventures
and Maple Syrup

Saturday morning Greyson got his first major boo boo. I heard the scream and just knew it wasn’t good. He was following Daddy out into the garage, something he does on a daily basis to get the doggy food and somehow managed to fall. Well, face met concrete and face ended up with concrete burn! He took it much better than mommy did, and after a quick kiss, a little Neosporin and a cookie he didn’t think about it again. I on the other hand feel nothing but pains of guilt as I look at his little scrapped up face and think what if??

Outside Adventures…. This weekend was full of them! The cool Florida winter days bring that sunny 60 degrees, where being outside in jeans and a sweatshirt feels great. The cold air is brisk on your face and makes hiking a pure joy. We let Greyson tromp about in the woods near our house and boy did he have fun! He found extreme delight in pine cones, sticks, and stones of every shape and size. He giggled at squirrels, squealed and pointed up at airplanes, and mastered the art of wiping his hands together to remove sand and dirt. We stayed out until our legs were tired, our cheeks were red from the wind and cool air and our bellies were hungry. It was….. well, perfect.

Sunday morning we found ourselves at one of our favorite breakfast spots, Bob Evans. Greyson had maple syrup on his pancakes for the first time and let’s just say he loved it! I think he would have drunk the syrup straight if I would have let him. When we got home, it was well past nap time and we came straight in and to the rocking chair. As he snuggled up on my shoulder all I could smell was maple syrup. Until that moment I couldn’t say it was I smell I really enjoyed, but while rocking him today there is no other smell in the world I would have enjoyed more.

My baby boy is most definitely a toddler. Big scrapes, dirty hands and smells of maple syrup……

P.J. Cowboy!

Still clad in his Pajamas, Greyson will run from his room, first say good morning to Daddy and then it’s off to ride his pony. He’s become quite addicted to rocking back and forth and he’s very good at it! He even loves to wear his cowboy hat…

Ride on, little buddy, ride on……..

Not so sweet dreams...

Last night I heard a scream that I hope to never hear again. It was a stomach turning, heart stopping, terrified scream and it was coming from my baby. I ran into Greyson’s room to find the little man, in the far corner of his crib, hands flailing and screaming. I’ve never pulled him out of his crib so fast, knowing that he was having a nightmare, but terrified that it was something more. He instantly stopped screaming, but held on to me tighter than ever before. His little arms so tight around my neck, his legs wrapping around my waist, and his little face buried into my neck as if he could just get closer it would all be ok. I stood, stunned and counting heart beats, willing his little heart to beat slower, reminding myself to go ahead a breath.

Fast forward 45 minutes, and I’m still standing in the center of Greyson’s room after 4 failed attempts to get him back into his crib. I admit that I was enjoying his willingness to stay so snuggled so I came up with the brilliant idea of just taking him out onto the couch and seeing if we couldn’t just cozy up there for a few hours. Rookie mistake! I swear the minute my foot hit the hallway he knew he had won! Oh, I was smug at first, settling him down next to me and thinking how smooth I was… he was sleeping, we were cozy, life was good……. SMACK!! A small hand straight to the cheek, followed by a giggle, followed by crawling and climbing towards my feet!

Fast forward “? Hours”, “All right, that’s it, back to your crib!”

The kicker – he gladly went back to sleep in his crib!!!

A lesson in snot….

How do you teach a toddler to blow? I look at my son, my adorable son, and cringe at the sight of thick, greenish, snot sliding out both nostrils; I dash for a Kleenex only to get to him 1.4 seconds too late. He’s already ran his hand through it and now its spread. Spread to his cheeks, his hair, in his ear. A battle ensues as I try to wipe his already chapped face free of super glueish snot. His nose is tender and runny, his cough is wet and chunky sounding, and I am at a loss on how to teach him to spit out what he coughs up and blow his little nose free. It sucks…..

On the upside, my dear friend Charlotte has recommended some wonderful sounding products: http://www.californiababy.com/colds-flu-essential-oil-blend-half-oz.html I have placed my order and of course even with expedited shipping my son will surely be well by the time they get here. Be warned next cold, I’ve stocked up on what will cure you!!

The picture is proof that the child is adorable, cold or no cold…..
